I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

A heartbreaking and hilarious memoir by iCarly and Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy about her struggles as a former child actor—including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother—and how she retook control of her life.

Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction,” eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.

In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail—just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true. Cast in a new Nickelodeon series called iCarly, she is thrust into fame. Though Mom is ecstatic, emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi (“Hi Gale!”), Jennette is riddled with anxiety, shame, and self-loathing, which manifest into eating disorders, addiction, and a series of unhealthy relationships. These issues only get worse when, soon after taking the lead in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande, her mother dies of cancer. Finally, after discovering therapy and quitting acting, Jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she really wants.

Told with refreshing candor and dark humor, I’m Glad My Mom Died is an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.

My Review minus spoilers but if I let a few slip, I’m sorry.🫢🏻 This book is my second favorite book I read in 2022.  I read along & listened to the Audible. Highly recommend if you can, listen to Jennette read in her own words. It’s truly a powerful, emotional, roller coaster, of a memoir. I cannot imagine all this young Woman went though. It was a lot. I hope by writing her Memoir in her own words, it has provided her in many ways of healing. I Field that she was completely honest in her feelings about her upbringing, her career, and the struggles that she went through. As a saying goes you never really know what a person goes through you just assume sometimes we’re all guilty of that. I hope in this next stage and or phase of her life, she can find the serenity and peace that she’s so rightfully and just fully deserves. This was a very well written memoir and I know people have talked about the title of her memoir but personally for me, I think it fits perfectly. Sometimes you have to look beyond the title and look at the story and her story definitely tells a lot. I wish you nothing but the best and that she continues on a healthy and happy mindset in a healthy and happy path with her life.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read for me. I truly recommend reading this book and definitely listening to the audio version whether it’s through Audible, or through your local library streaming if they are able to get that service. Hearing her tell her story will definitely stick with you. I cannot again express how many times I cried along when she spoke. I see this being one of the best books of 2022.

Seven Nights by Sophie Somerville

 Seven Nights by Sophie Somerville

When I was sixteen my life was destroyed after private photos of me were shared around school.

I was eighteen when I went on holiday and found him.
With his perfect waves of chestnut hair, his lazy saunter and a uniform of indifference, Jonny was everything I didn't know I needed. And I fell for him.

But he’s not the kind of guy that falls for anyone.

I’m twenty-two when he walks into the school where I work and back into my life — only to send it all spiralling out of control ... again.

It was only seven nights, five years ago. Connections like that can’t last… Can they?

Review by me minus spoilers.

Broken Horses by Brandi Carlile

Broken Horses: A Memoir by Brandi Carlile

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FIVE Star Review & so far my favorite Book that I listened to on Audio.πŸŽ§πŸ“š. I plan on buying a copy of this book and thank you to my husband for buying me the Audible of this. I listened via Libby.

I’ve heard of Brandi Carlile before. Never listened to music or followed her journey. I am so glad that I kept coming back to this Audio because I wanted to hear her tell “her” story. I have not had a book hit me so profoundly in honesty, years. I honestly lived for every, single, chapter to keep going and the music at the end of the chapter (mini spoiler) I took it all in. I cried a lot too with this one. I felt like I connected with Brandi in more ways then one. I enjoyed her story so very much and how it moved me personally. She’s definitely a story teller & a damn good one ( please excuse the language.) I hope one day I am able to see her in concert. It’s been since 2018 that I’ve been to a concert but man I’d love to see her Rock it out. I think, knowing me, I’d cry because I’d take in every, single, lyric she would sing, every, single note she’d play. I am honestly in awe of her and I guess l, yep fan girlish at 41. I highly without a doubt, Recommend this book, I got so much pit of the audio personally, but plan on buying this for my Birthday. Thank you Brandi for sharing your story with us, with me. Right know in my life this was the perfect book/Audio to have read/listened to. Brandi Carlile, thank you. ❤️ #BrokenHorses #BrandiCarlie #Singer #Wife #Mother #Songwriter #Producer #Preformer #GrammyWinner #LookingOutFoundation

Synopsis belowπŸ‘‡πŸΌ

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR AND AUTOSTRADDLE • “The best-written, most engaging rock autobiography since her childhood hero, Elton John, published Me.”—Variety

Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, fourteen times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

As an openly gay teenager, Brandi grappled with the tension between her sexuality and her faith when her pastor publicly refused to baptize her on the day of the ceremony. Shockingly, her small town rallied around Brandi in support and set her on a path to salvation where the rest of the misfits and rejects find it: through twisted, joyful, weird, and wonderful music.

In Broken Horses, Brandi Carlile takes readers through the events of her life that shaped her very raw art—from her start at a local singing competition where she performed Elton John’s “Honky Cat” in a bedazzled white polyester suit, to her first break opening for Dave Matthews Band, to many sleepless tours over fifteen years and six studio albums, all while raising two children with her wife, Catherine Shepherd. This hard-won success led her to collaborations with personal heroes like Elton John, Dolly Parton, Mavis Staples, Pearl Jam, Tanya Tucker, and Joni Mitchell, as well as her peers in the supergroup The Highwomen, and ultimately to the Grammy stage, where she converted millions of viewers into instant fans.

Evocative and piercingly honest, Broken Horses is at once an examination of faith through the eyes of a person rejected by the church’s basic tenets and a meditation on the moments and lyrics that have shaped the life of a creative mind, a brilliant artist, and a genuine empath on a mission to give back.

BONES by Shantel Tessier

BONES
I got my name from breaking the bones of a kid who picked on my younger brother, but that’s only where it started.
My black heart craves violence, and being a King gives me plenty of opportunities.

When a friend comes to me for help because someone he loves is in danger, I’m happy to do so. After all, my friends are few, and they are my family.

Once I have her, I do what I have to in order to protect her. She thinks she’s in hell, but this is child’s play compared to what she would have faced.

She’s an innocent through and through and completely off-limits. But that’s not enough to stop me from doing what I do best—taking what’s mine.

MIA
I was born into a deadly Mafia family, yet I’m a nobody. To the world, I don’t exist.

Shuffled from Vegas as a child and sent to Italy for my protection, I became invisible. Until they found a use for me. Now I’m a card my father can play. A chance to cash in on the family name to the highest bidder.

Taken from my home, I’m sold to a King. His hard blue eyes take no prisoners. He’s just another pretty face to hide the evil and in no way my savior.

Now I know what hell looks like because I’m living it. But just when I think I can finally be free, it all comes crashing down, and the King I thought would end me is the only one who can save me.

All I wanted was to be somebody, but now I wish I’d stayed the nobody.

BONES is the fifth book in The Dark Kingdom Series and can be read as a standalone. Due to mature content and themes this book is recommended for readers aged eighteen and over. This novel may contain triggers.

Review without spoilers:

Bones & Mia are two characters that will stay with me for awhile. I really enjoyed this book. I really felt connected to Mia. She definitely was someone who was not afraid to take on a challenge and that’s a beautiful thing in a book for me. Bones, he grew on me. Definitely give this book a read and the others in this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read.

The Ruthless Groom (Wedded Bliss Book 2) By Monica Murphy

The Ruthless Groom (Wedded Bliss Book 2)

By Monica Murphy

I didn't plan to marry a reclusive heiress. Lucky for me, I find myself attracted to my beautiful new bride. Our arranged marriage connects two powerful companies. That we’re compatible between the sheets is a bonus, but I didn’t bargain on her ex showing up at the wedding reception uninvited.

That pushed me right over the edge.

I protect what’s mine, and Charlotte is now mine, whether she likes it or not. Our honeymoon is a disaster in paradise. I’m angry. She’s resentful. All those swirling emotions explode in the most physical ways.

But even as I'm drawn closer to my new wife, there’s still a threat looming out there. Seamus McTiernan is determined to destroy what we’ve created.

I won’t let anything tear us apart.

He has no idea who he’s dealing with. I will end him.

Watch me.

My Review without spoilers:

This is book two of our three in the series. The Ruthless Groom picks up right where The Reluctant Bride left off. I had to know what was going on between Perry & Charlotte. I’m so into these characters from book one now into the second book. I’m a Perry fan & adore Charlotte. This was a fantastic read and I’m looking forward to book three with these two. They have quickly become two of my favorite characters in a book. I cannot say enough about this book but please read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Reluctant Bride (Wedded Bliss Book 1)

By Monica Murphy

Everyone’s for sale, including me. One moment I’m the forgotten daughter of one of the most wealthy families in the country, and the next I’m the blushing bride in an arranged marriage. My fate is sealed in my wedded union with a complete stranger.

In public, Perry Constantine is the life of the party. Easygoing. Adored. In private, he’s brooding. Dark. Angry. But so am I. It’s a contest of wills to see who will break in the bedroom first, and while I try to remain strong, I find myself craving the very man I swore to hate.

My husband.

Now my review minus the spoilers…

I was excited to read this book. It was the first book by Monica that I read. Plus when I found out it was a series, no brainer I knew I’d be hooked. I really loved the Charlottes character in this book. Plus I was really into learning about Perry. He intrigued me. I loved the interaction between these two characters very much and this story. I won’t give much away but such a phenomenal read. This book sucks you in and I highly, highly recommend it. Excited to read book two in this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
